KVC Hospitals Announces Location of Youth Psychiatric Hospital in Western Kansas

KVC Hospitals (KVC) is pleased to announce the future location of its youth psychiatric treatment programs in western Kansas. As part of a new partnership with the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), KVC Hospitals Hays will relocate and reside at 3000 New Way Boulevard in Hays, Kansas. It will be adjacent to the Hays Medical Center, Business Center and will be specifically designed to meet the acute psychiatric needs of youth in rural and frontier Kansas.

KVC Hospitals Hays will begin providing services at its new location in January 2023. KVC currently provides psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) services in Hays and will continue providing those services at the new location and is adding 14 beds for children’s psychiatric inpatient hospital treatment.

“We are thrilled for this next chapter for KVC and the western Kansas community. Our expanded services in Hays will bring critical resources directly to young people in an under-served region of our state,” said Bobby Eklofe, President of KVC Hospitals. “We are privileged to provide these services and to be a source of hope for children and families.”

These programs will serve youth ages 6 to 18 years. By adding these new children’s psychiatric hospital beds in Kansas, KVC will be able to serve over 600 more youth each year out of this newly leased space owned by Hays Medical Center.

KVC is actively fundraising to help support this expansion in western Kansas and relies on the generosity of donors to fund these imperative programs. A lead gift of $250,000 has been given by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation to help bring these life-saving services to children and families.

KVC previously provided youth psychiatric hospitalization in Hays from 2010 to 2019 following the closure of the children’s hospital at Larned State Hospital. During that time, KVC served thousands of children.
