How to Help a Child Receiving Psychiatric Treatment This Holiday Season
Looking for a way to give back and help a child this holiday season? Join KVC’s Holiday Hero program and donate gifts to children receiving psychiatric treatment at KVC Prairie Ridge Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. or KVC Wheatland Hospital in Hays, Kan. These children are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts or feelings of violence. Our acute/inpatient and residential treatment services teach these youth skills to process trauma, manage difficult emotions and move beyond traumatic experiences.
Many children receiving treatment at our psychiatric hospitals are either unable to leave the campus or have nowhere else to go during the holidays. By donating gifts, you are helping make the holidays brighter for these children. Anyone can sign up to be a Holiday Hero; a community, business, church, individual or family.
How to Help a Child This Holiday Season
We are seeking gifts for both boys and girls ages 5-18:
- Toys (Legos, handheld games, cars, dolls, action figures)
- Board games
- Books
- DVD movies (PG)
- Socks and slippers
- Pajamas
- Sweat shirts and sweat pants
- MP3/CD Players
- Music CD’s
- Footballs
- Basketballs
- Hair accessories for girls (no metal)
- Deck of cards
- Card Games
- Candy
- Arts and crafts supplies (no sharp items)
- Hygiene items (deodorant, shampoo, lotion)
- Chapstick
- Kansas City sports items (KU, K-State, Royals and Chiefs)
